Construction and ZoningConstruction and zoning are two very important issues affecting many residents in the 43rd Ward. Ald. Daley is the Vice-Chair of the City Council Committee on Zoning and has sponsored legislation to create pedestrian oriented retail streets, institute height limits in all neighborhood business and residential zoning districts, and protect adjacent property owners from damage during excavation. She is currently working on legislation to insure real, rear yards on residential blocks and implement development standards for enclosed connectors between houses and the garages.
Ald. Daley works with neighborhood associations to promote their development guidelines, review projects seeking zoning approval, and analyze the zoning classification districts to insure compatibility with the character of the neighborhood. Ald. Daley works with property owners and their neighbors to mediate concerns regarding construction projects.
More resources are now available for citizens to learn about zoning and the status of construction projects. Through the City Links on this site one can check the status of a building permit. From the City's Department of Zoning web page one can read the City's Zoning Code and check the zoning classification of an area or address. Agendas for the Committee on Zoning and the Zoning Board of Appeals are also posted on the Department of Zoning page.
Please contact the alderman's office if you have problems with a specific construction site or questions about zoning on a specific property.
